Self care as a Mum is important not only for yourself, but also your family.  Taking care of yourself and your mental health is paramount for being an awesome Mum. You know, the mum that you are, and the mum you have wanted to be since you first saw those two sweet little eyes staring up at you.

Without taking the time out to care for yourself, you are less likely to be the best version of yourself that there is.  All the aspects in your life can be affected when you don’t care for yourself.  For example, your relationships with your kids and your partner may suffer, and these things can happen without you noticing straight away.

I can hear you groaning as you read this, thinking ‘how can I possibly fit something more into my life?’  I know the feeling, I have three kids under four, work a full-time job juggling pickups and drop offs with my hubby, constantly trying to organise dinner – the list is endless!

FIFO Emergency – Bushfires, Babies … and a FIFO Husband

Have you ever wondered what might happen if there was an emergency while your hubby or partner is away at work?  And I'm not talking about running out of milk before breakfast.

Imagine waking up from a nap one afternoon and being told that you have to evacuate your home because of a bushfire emergency.

Now, imagine doing it without your husband, all while trying to soothe a screaming 4 week old baby and a cheeky 2 year old.

Other than pregnancy and birth, there hasn't been too many emergencies that I've had to live through while hubs has been at work.  Sure there have been kid injuries and chooks passing away, maybe even the odd escaped sheep or gastro outbreak.

But what I want to talk to you about is my experience of living through a bushfire while my FIFO husband was away at work.

Baby Number Three – Two Boys and Counting

We decided to clean out the boys toy room.  My eldest is 4.5 and my youngest is 20 months. They don’t play in there. They destroy it … then move onto the lounge room.  Their room.  The kitchen.

It was meant to be an easy job. Pack it away. Vacuum. Done.

But I couldn’t stop crying.  Everything I wen to pack away made me cry more.  Which provoked questions from my husband. Which made me clam up.
